Future City Energy Systems

The portfolio aims to demonstrate the new solutions that are fundamentally changing the city's energy system for heat, cooling and electricity. Smartgrid, smart real estate, new solutions for property management are just some of the solutions that are emerging and that are pushing forward a so-called prosumer system, that is, blurring the line between producer and consumer. Linked to this is the increased need to develop solutions that are resilient and can work in various forms of crisis.

Added to this is the increased need to develop solutions that are resilient and can work in various forms of crisis. This could include new local electricity systems, plus energy areas and innovative heating systems (such as low-temperature district heating).

Varför?

Energy efficiency and new energy solutions are a prerequisite for reducing environmental impact, but are also needed to meet increased energy costs. Furthermore, energy systems face new demands where robustness, the possibility of more local production and digitalisation become important parts of the solutions developed.

The power ring: The district heating of the future is already underway in Brunnshög

In Brunnshög, the research is doubly beneficial. Here, Max IV and eventually ESS deliver research results while providing the low-energy buildings in the area with a comfortable indoor climate using residual heat from the plants. The power ring network, which could become the world's largest low-temperature district heating network, is the backbone of the sustainable area and is at the same time an example of the next generation of district heating. Lower temperatures in the grid provide the possibility of using other materials and laying technologies, which partly enables expansion in areas with low energy houses and increases the possibility of using residual heat from more operations.

E.ON: The ectogrid™ energy solution at Medicon Village

E.ON has the energy innovation ectogrid™ and Medicon Village has properties suitable for the energy system. That's why the world's first ectogrid™ is located in Lund and Medicon Village became E.ON's global innovation and demonstration platform for the ectogrid™ system. Once they met within Future by Lund and discovered the possibility of collaboration.

Lund Municipality: Trans-PED transforms cities using plus-energy areas

Plus-energy neighbourhoods are a great way to achieve carbon reduction targets, while creating more resilient and livable cities. In order to make it easier to develop more areas with positive energy, it is important to make changes in the way cities are planned, designed and operated. In the Trans-PED project in which Lund Municipality participates, the aim is to develop a governance model that can lead to profound changes in cities.

Lund Municipality, Kraftringen: COOL DH - low temperature district heating

COOL DH is an EU project aimed at optimising the use of low-temperature district heating. In the project, a number of Swedish and Danish partners worked on solutions for low-temperature district heating with the aim of promoting a more resource, energy and cost efficient district heating supply for the sustainable cities of the future. The project was completed in autumn 2022 and has a strong connection to the low-temperature district heating network that Kraftringen is building in Brunnshög.

LKF: Xplorion, a car-free accommodation with the mobility service EC2B

How about a car-free, smoke-free and detergent-free living — with in-house services and services that allow you to live climate-smart? LKF's new sustainable accommodation Xplorion includes, for example, the mobility service EC2B, where residents can borrow an electric car, an electric bike or find trips using public transport.

Lund Municipality: Cityfied - Prized energy project at Linero

A housing project at Linero received international attention. It was the EU project Cityfied to renovate and make energy efficient existing homes that was awarded a Smart Cities Award. The goal was to reduce energy consumption through renovation so that it is similar to the consumption of a newly manufactured apartment — and so far we have succeeded very well.
