Kalaudioscope — Personalized Digital Live Experiences

Kalaudioscope is an innovation portfolio to enhance, make available and expand digital live experiences with new technologies and an ethical approach that cares for artistic expressions. The vision for the innovation portfolio is to make it possible to stream live events where the "digital" audience has control over who and what to zoom in on, not only in terms of image but also in terms of sound. One goal is to enable everyone to participate in the world of music and performing arts regardless of context, background and ability.

The digital experience is put together by several areas of advanced technology and can allow event organizers to develop new formats. It responds to an industry need for development and innovation that keeps pace with transformative times, opening up new markets and business opportunities for the creative and cultural sectors.

Kalaudioscope is coordinated through Future by Lund and the portfolio brings together concert halls such as Malmö Live, companies such as Axis, Amazon and Sony, as well as several faculties at Lund University such as the artistic, legal, economic and technical, in a joint exploration and creation.

What?

The vision is to be able to stream live events where the digital audience chooses their own camera angle and what they want to zoom in on, both in terms of image and sound. Digital live experiences should be at least as magical as they are in reality.

Why?

Experiencing a theatre performance or concert digitally can be what allows people who are otherwise barred to participate in cultural life. It also gives artists and organizers opportunities to both broaden and deepen the relationship with their audience.

Unexpected — arts and science innovation forum 2025

Unexpected is a forum that approaches innovation in a different way, and in 2023 the first event was held. On June 4, 2025, Unexpected returns to Mejeriet in Lund. This is an opportunity when art, science, business, creative industries and philosophy come together to shape the future. The aim is to enable stakeholders to build an inclusive innovation ecosystem guided by both ethics and aesthetics, and where the cultural and creative sectors and industries are shown their capacity to play a leading role in addressing complex societal challenges.

Konsert X: How does the law need to be adapted when concerts go digital?

Digital experiences are increasingly complex and advanced, and increasingly resemble the real world. This gives many more people access to powerful experiences through live concerts and performances. Artists and performers also receive more sources of income and channels while new technologies and new services are developed. Technological developments lead to legal issues such as copyright, privacy and data protection. At the same time, it is also important to review certain rules so that they do not slow down the pace of innovation but instead facilitate technology implementation and co-creation. The ConcertX project will develop specific legal tools for the growing field of technological and cultural innovation around personal, digital and immersive concert experiences.

Become your own conductor from the couch

Sit comfortably on the sofa at home and let yourself be absorbed by a symphony orchestra's magical interpretation of Beethoven's Five with the same experience as if you were on location in the concert hall. Choose the camera angle, zoom in, cut, sound quality, and additional background information about the piece being played. Or chat with others in the digital audience. All this can become a reality through a unique collaboration between academia, the cultural sector and the business community.
